Pattaya is Thailand's most misunderstood destination. Yes, it has a reputation for nightlife, but scratch beneath the surface and you'll find excellent beaches, stunning temples, world-class golf courses, water sports, and island escapes. Just 2 hours from Bangkok, it offers easy beach access, diverse attractions, and a unique blend of Thai culture and international tourism.
Top Attractions
Sanctuary of Truth
This 105-meter wooden temple is Pattaya's most impressive attraction. Every inch is covered with intricate hand-carved figures representing Buddhist and Hindu philosophy. Under construction since 1981 using traditional methods (no nails), it's a living artwork with craftsmen still carving daily. Stunning at sunset.

- Hours: 8am-6pm daily
- Best Time: Late afternoon for golden light

Koh Larn Island
This island escape offers pristine beaches that put Pattaya Beach to shame. Just 45 minutes by ferry, Koh Larn has seven gorgeous beaches, excellent snorkeling, and fresh seafood restaurants. Rent a scooter to explore or stick to one beach for a relaxing day. Much quieter on weekdays.
Big Buddha Hill (Wat Phra Yai)
The 18-meter golden Buddha has watched over Pattaya since 1977. The hilltop temple complex offers panoramic views over Pattaya Bay and is a working Buddhist temple with monks. It's a peaceful contrast to the city below. Visit at sunset for spectacular views.
Walking Street
Love it or hate it, Walking Street is the world-famous entertainment strip that defines Pattaya's reputation. After dark, the road closes to traffic and fills with bars, clubs, and street performers. Even if the nightlife isn't your scene, walking through is a quintessential Pattaya experience.
Nong Nooch Tropical Garden
This 600-acre botanical garden features themed areas including French, European, and tropical gardens. The Thai cultural show with traditional dancing and elephant shows draws families. The dinosaur valley is kid-friendly, and the orchid collection is stunning.
Jomtien Beach
Just south of Pattaya, Jomtien offers a more relaxed beach atmosphere. The 6km stretch has better swimming, less aggressive vendors, and a mix of families and kite surfers. The food at beachside restaurants is excellent, and it's a favorite with long-term expats.
Pattaya Food Guide
Pattaya's food scene reflects its international visitors - you'll find cuisines from around the world. But the best eating is Thai: fresh seafood from the Gulf of Thailand, street food stalls, and excellent Thai restaurants catering to local tastes, not just tourists.
